Slide Decks and Follow-Up Content from Seattle Social Games Meetup
Last week I attended the Seattle Social Games Meetup entitled "A Peek Inside the Zynga Playbook." It was a very good pair of presentations from Will O'Brien from TrialPay and Amitt Mahajan from Zynga.
Will's presentation was "Top 3 Ways To Monetize Your Games." It was short and sweet, and while I wouldn't say there were any secrets revealed, his points were on target. Basically, let your players get their feet wet with in-game currency, then introduce a second premium currency and let them buy at the points where they are most likely to. You can get the full details in exchange for your email address here: http://go.trialpay.com/forms/seattlegames
Next, it was Amitt Mahajan, the lead developer on Zynga's FarmVille. His presentation, entitled "Building Big Social Games," did contain quite a lot of good information about things to consider when building a game platform that's going to allow both scalability and fast time-to-market. Amitt's slide deck is on SlideShare:
Amitt posted some follow-up information on his blog here: http://www.amitt.com/2009/12/18/building-big-social-games
As for Seattle Social Games itself, the group's site is http://www.socialgamesseattle.com/ and is led by AJ Archibald, I guy I don't know much about but to whom I am thankful for his efforts to put this night together.
